THE RED QUEEN

Married off to Selarick Kine, the Archon of The Hermit Kingdom, she soon rose to power when he died of natural causes shortly after their marriage. This was no surprise to anyone due to his advanced age and poor health. Lacking any heirs who could otherwise claim the throne, she was named monarch and became known as The Red Queen, ostensibly thanks to her dark red hair. Though it is rumored that she is called The Red Queen by her subjects not because of her hair, but because Selarick Kine was unable to consummate their marriage, being so old and in such ill health, so she supposedly never bled. Along with her dark red hair, Nadine has pale skin and dark eyes – which is very rare for a Lorn.
 

She has taken to frequently holding gladiatorial games to identify the fittest among her people and invites warriors from all over Arcadia to enter the games with promises of great riches if they win. She also breeds the fittest together and there is talk that she is building an elite army for The Hermit Kingdom which has traditionally been, as its name would imply, an isolationist state.

Someone claiming to be Allarick Kine, the true heir and a son of Selarick, has been stirring up unrest in recent times and is currently imprisoned.
 

There is a significant population of Lorn in The Hermit Kingdom, but the vast, vast majority of the people are Alauni and they are very protective of being pure bred. Many of her people are very displeased with Nadine bringing in so many foreigners for her army and gladiatorial games.
