THE PEOPLE OF THE FOREST

The People of The Forest (also sometimes referred to as the Beast Folk or the Animal Men) are not so much a specific race, but a collection of many different animal humanoids who inhabit The Forest Serene. There have been hundreds of different types of animal men recorded from humanoid bulls to cat species (large and small) to Dog and Wolf men to the reclusive, goat-like Yippir of The Cryptic Mountains (named after the dragon, Crypt, who is said to live deep within the caves of the mountain range). There is no connection to The Ape Men of the far away Maag Jungle or any of the Tree People pods found in Flaam or any other Arcadian Jungle. Specifically, there are no ape-like Beast Folk found in The Forest. Populations of various types of Centaurs and Satyrs can be found here also.

Surprisingly, The People of The Forest live in relative harmony (as the name of the forest would suggest) regardless of the incredible diversity of the peoples who live there and the potential predator/prey relationships some of them would be expected to have. In that regard, the Beast Folk have strong prohibitions against eating other sentient creatures and only hunt non-sentient animals whom they do not consider themselves related to (regardless of species similarities). The only large-scale exception to the peaceful coexistence of races in The Forest Serene are The Hyena Men who are incredibly aggressive agitators and have been known to break the prohibition against eating other People of The Forest.
